Writer in Residence,

Last Wednesday, Helena Close, famous author, visited our school. Helena Close writes under the pen name Sarah O Brien. Helena told us that she often tried to write romantic novels with her best friend Trisha Rainsford but they would always end up being comical. They have written  4 novels  together and now Helena is working solo on her new novel  “Band World”, a story about a computer game that sucks the imagination out of children.

When she came into our class, she introduced herself and read out a list of rules that her 13 year old daughter had given to her. They were hilarious. Next we played a game called “What If ?” and then Helena divided the class into 4 groups  and each group was given the task of rewriting the story of  “The three little pigs” from the point of view of the different characters. The results were hilarious and entertaining.

Unfortunately we ran out of time so we didn’t get to listen to Helena read from her forthcoming book. All in all it was very enjoyable. Thanks to Helena for a great workshop and to Limerick County Council Art Office for sponsoring the programme.
